Do you have spare containers eligible for a 10c refund?
Down to Earth is closely partnered with the Containers for Change. Each container collected at our bins or donated by the community goes towards our various initiatives.
The most significant way for you to help Down to Earth help others, is to donate your unwanted containers!
Donate 10c cans
Drop off your containers at our weekly food services or contact D2E with your location and we will send out a van to pick up the empty recyclables.
Transport the cans
Once the cans are in transit, the nearest Containers for Change is located to start the process of turning trash into treasure.
Recycle & Receive
The cans are sorted by Containers for Change and turned into new material for its second life. D2E then receives the refunded money from your cans and bottles!
Buy food and finally feed!
The last step in our process is sourcing ingredients for our next cook up! Our catering volunteers then turn them into delicious, healthy meals that nourish our community.

The Containers for Change program has allowed D2E to provide food for those vulnerable in the community. Unfortunately Ipswich lacks public recycling bins, so residents often are left to dispose recyclables in general waste bins. Down to Earth provides an opportunity to boost sustainability effort though responsible waste management while also donating the proceeds to a necessary service for people in need.
We partner with Containers for Change. While we collect the refundable recyclables, they process the glass, aluminium and plastic into materials that can be reused in making new products - thus contributing to establishing a circular economy.

We rarely take donations that aren’t food or recyclables due to the varying quality of donated goods. The most ideal form of donation for D2E is 10c cans & bottles, but we also accept gift cards to grocery stores, edible goods, and cooking equipment.
Some examples of donations we accept are: pots and pans, cutlery, paper plates/bowls, wooden single-use cutlery, leftover stock foods (un-expired, non-perishable), grocery store gift cards, single-use gloves, natural cleaning products, unused personal hygiene products (razors, menstrual products, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, band-aids etc.).
